The Black Lace Scarf on the Chair

Dear Mr. Haiman,

Here is the lace scarf of which I spoke to you.  Fortunately, I had sent it on from Washington.

It is, I believe, an example of what is popularly known as “Spanish Blonde”.  Your lace expert will know.

Possibly, Mr. Paderewski brought it to his sister as a souvenir of one of his Spanish tours.  Mrs. Strakacz may remember this; also, the date of its presentation.

It was given to me after Madame Wilkonska’s death.

I think it will add another personal note to the beautiful, most moving, Paderewski Room which you have created; and I am happy to be able to send it to you.        Sincerely,

                                                                                        Charlotte Kellogg
