Welcome to the Gift Shop!

HOURS

Our hours are 11:00a.m.–3:30p.m. Friday–Wednesday. We are closed every Thursday as well as major holidays.

The Gift Shop is usually operated by the Museum attendants and is opened at the request of our visitors.  Please realize the number of staff in the Museum is limited and visitors may have to wait for the availability of someone to open the Gift Shop.

Please advise the Gift Shop attendant if you are travelling by airplane.  The attendant will wrap your purchase for best protection and ease of security inspection.

The Gift Shop accepts personal checks with photo ID and Visa, MasterCard and Discover credit cards.

A Note on Gift Shop Tax Status

The Museum/ Library/ Archives and the Gift Shop are actually two different entities with separate tax filings, reporting and management. The Museum is officially a 501(c)(3) corporation, not-for-profit, while the Gift Shop is a for-profit organization. Whatever the Gift Shop purchases and sells, say a published book, the Gift Shop must charge sales tax and report the profits. Every year at the Summer Ball the Gift Shop donates most of its profits to the Museum, but must (and does) retain a certain amount to maintain operations, that is, to buy things to sell.

In other areas of this website you may find items for sale directly by the Museum. These are items produced and/or paid for by the Museum. Whatever the Museum pays for, such as publication of a book, exhibit catalogue or poster, can be sold by the Museum under its 501(c)(3) status and is thus not subject to sales tax.
