Meet Drs. Anna Krawczyńska Paré and Richard Paré with daughters

Alexandra and Kristina – donors of the Drs. Krawczyński Polish modern graphic art collection to the PMA.

The selections on display from the Krawczyński Collection offer an incisive overview of the currents in postwar Polish art as it emerged from the ramifications of socialist restrictions placed on visual arts.

Drs. Elzbieta Gurtler and Krzysztof Krawczyński were graduates of Warsaw Medical Academy. Married in 1962, they spent 54 years together, until their tragic death in 2016.They worked in Poland until they emigrated to the United States in 1983. Dr. Krzysztof Krawczyński’s field was research in immunopathology. During his career he made outstanding contributions in the area of viral hepatitis at the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta. He was an Honorary Member of the Polish-American Medical Society in Chicago. Dr. Elżbieta Gurtler-Krawczyńska was a recognized cardiologist. She was a faculty member at Emory University in the Department of Nuclear Medicine, teaching and conducting studies in heart nuclear imaging. Drs. Elżbieta and Krzysztof Krawczyński’s passion was promoting Polish art, culture, music, and traditions. They collected Polish art, organized events, fundraisers, and supported the Chopin Society of Atlanta. Elżbieta was a Founding member of the Polish Club in Atlanta. In Memory of her Parents, Dr. Anna Paré with her family, are donating the Krawczyński’s modern art collection to The Polish Museum of America to preserve it as a testament of their devotion to Polish culture.
