Książka autorstwa Hani Tallmadge, bratanicy Madame Ganny Walskiej jest hołdem złożonym przez autorkę swojej wielkiej cioci i niezwykłej Polce.

Ganna Walska była wyjątkowej urody damą, portretowaną przez wielu artystów malarzy, zarówno europejskich jak i amerykańskich.

Była też śpiewaczką operową, występowała na wielu scenach operowych Europy i Ameryki. Jej przepiękne stroje teatralne i olśniewająca biżuteria zachwycały.

Obdarzona ogromnym poczuciem piękna i wyjątkowym zmysłem twórczym stworzyła jeden z najpiękniejszych ogrodów botanicznych w Ameryce, kiedy po zakończeniu życia artystycznego osiadła w Montecito Santa Barbara w Kalifornii i to tam znajduje się ów egzotyczny ogród botaniczny o nazwie Lotusland.

Jej burzliwe życie osobiste, nie pozbawione tragedii i rozczarowań to jeszcze jeden z aspektów jej fascynującego losu. Do końca swego długiego życia szukała spełnienia w życiu osobistym, aż sześć razy była zamężną, nie doczekała się jednak ani prawdziwego szczęścia, ani potomstwa.

A była osobą wielce szlachetną i wrażliwą, niezwykle pomocną i hojną, i nie tylko dla bliskich, sponsorowała wiele pomysłów i przedsięwzięć.

Jej dotacja na odbudowę Zamku Królewskiego w Warszawie była największym indywidualnym darem.

Do bogactwa jej życia należy dopisać *Théâtre des Champs-Elysées *w Paryżu, który zakupiła w latach dwudziestych ubiegłego stulecia.
Ten muzyczny awangardowy teatr istnieje do dziś.

Zasłynął z prawykonania *Święta wiosny* Igora Strawińskiego w 1913 roku, co nie tylko wywołało wielki skandal kulturalny w Paryżu, ale nawet doszło do zamieszek ulicznych w formie protestu za zbyt śmiałe wykonanie.

W 1970 roku, po prawie pięćdziesięciu latach władania Teatrem, Ganna Walska przekazała Teatrowi swoje udziały, aby zapewnić

*Orchestre de Paris*dożywotnią siedzibę.

W podzięce za ten szlachetny gest Paryż odwdzięczyl się Ganie Walskiej przyznaniem jej honorowego obywatelstwa miasta.

Author Hania Tallmadge, niece of Madame Ganna Walska, pays tribute to her great aunt and an extraordinary Polish woman, in Ganna Walska Portrait of an Era. Madame Walska was a lady of exceptional beauty, with her portrait captured by many European and American painters.

 

She was also an opera singer, performing on many stages in Europe and America. Her beautiful theatrical costumes and dazzling jewelry were a delight to audiences.

 

Endowed with a great sense of beauty and exceptional creativity, she created one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in America when, after the end of her artistic life, she settled in Montecito Santa Barbara, California, where Lotusland, an exotic botanical garden, is located.

*Ganna Walska Lotusland, visited by botanists from all over the world and many lovers of beauty and nature.*

 

Her tumultuous personal life, not devoid of tragedies and disappointments, is yet another aspect of her fascinating fate. Until the end of her long life, she sought personal fulfillment. She was married six times, but she did not live to see either true happiness or children of her own.

Madame Walska was a very noble and sensitive person, and extremely helpful and generous, not only to her relatives. She sponsored many initiatives and undertakings, including providing a grant for the reconstruction of the Royal Castle in Warsaw as her greatest individual gift. In the 1920s, she purchased Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, a musical avant-garde theater that still exists today. The theater became famous for the premiere of Igor Stravinsky's *The Rite of Spring* in 1913, which not only caused a great cultural scandal in Paris, but even led to street riots for its too bold performance.

In 1970, after nearly fifty years of ownership of the theatre, Ganna Walska donated her shares to the theater to ensure *Orchester de Paris* a lifetime seat. In gratitude for this noble gesture, Paris rewarded Madame Walska with honorary citizenship of the city.

The promotional event for Ganna Walska. Portrait of an Era will take place at the Polish Museum of America on October 14 at 6:00 pm, with discussion led by Mira Puacz, wife of the late Edward Puacz, half-brother of Madame Ganna Walska.

 

Free admission - free donations for PMA activities. The promotion will be held in Polish.
