Polish Imagination – The World of Tomorrow

Polish Imagination: The World of Tomorrow
Polish Pavilion at the 1939 New York World’s Fair

Even as the dark clouds of war were looming in 1939, Poland held onto its optimism at the World’s Fair in New York City, themed “The World of Tomorrow.” The Polish Pavilion showcased the finest Poland had to offer in categories such as the arts, crafts, agriculture, sciences, commerce and more. With the outbreak of World War II and the closing of the World’s Fair in 1940, the objects presented at the Polish Pavilion could not return to Poland. Thankfully, many Pavilion artifacts were acquired by the Polish Museum of America in 1941. 2019 marks the 80th Anniversary of the Polish Pavilion. In October, the Polish Museum will host a commemorative exhibition, presenting restored permanent displays of artifacts from the Polish Pavilion, enriched by additional treasures from the PMA vault.
