On October 14, Poland celebrates Teacher’s Day and National Education Day, commemorating the founding of the Commission of National Education (Komisja Edukacji Narodowej) in 1773 – the first ministry of education in Europe. It’s a day to express gratitude to all teachers, mentors, and lifelong learners who dedicate themselves to the noble mission of sharing knowledge.
At the Polish Museum of America, this day carries special meaning as our first curator, Mieczysław Haiman, was a historian and educator who devoted his life to documenting and promoting Polish heritage in the United States.

14 października w Polsce obchodzimy Dzień Nauczyciela oraz Dzień Edukacji Narodowej, upamiętniający powstanie Komisji Edukacji Narodowej – pierwszego w Europie ministerstwa oświaty, założonego w 1773 roku.
