Orzechowski 24 Preludes and Improvisations

Following the 2017 album release of the same name, “piano hooligan” Piotr Orzechowski brings his 24 Preludes and Improvisations to Chicago for the first time. The work alludes to Johann Sebastian Bach’s 24 Preludes and Fugues with 24 Preludes, musical miniatures, juxtaposed with the 24 Improvisations set according to the chromatic scale in 12 keys of the circle of fifths, in major and minor modes. The project, which pays tribute to the tradition and principles of music while at the same time putting emphasis on the power of improvisation, allows Orzechowski’s extraordinary talents and passion to wow the audience with the phenomenon of jazz.

A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Piotr Orzechowski he has received many prizes, the most important of which was 1st Prize at the Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition (2011), which he was the first Pole to win in the legendary Swiss festival’s history.

Orzechowski is the leader of the High Definition Quartet, with which he has won several international competitions – including Jazz Hoeilaart in Belgium (2011) – and undertaken a collaboration with contemporary jazz trumpet giant Randy Brecker which resulted in two concert tours: in Poland (2012) and the Persian Gulf countries (2013). Piotr has toured with such eminent jazz personalities as Victor Mendoza (Taiwan, 2014) and Perico Sambeat (Ecuador, 2015).
