Musical performance, a short-film presentation, and panel discussion about the Haitian-Polish community of Cazale in Haiti. Reception to follow.

More connects Haitians and Poles than their communities being part of the immigrant fabric of Chicago. A short film and panel discussion about how Haitians and Poles are connected through the events of the Haitian Revolution.

Music:
Soloist from the Lira Ensemble, under artistic direction of Lucyna Migala.

Panelists:
– Dr. Courtney Pierre Joseph, PhD, Assistant professor of History and African American Studies at Lake Forest College.
– Dr. Magdalena Moskalewicz, PhD, art historian, curator, and editor who teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
– Pawel Grajnert, filmmaker.

A cooperative presentation of The Haitian American Museum of Chicago and the Polish Museum of America with support from the Chicago Cultural Alliance as part of the Inherit Chicago Festival.

Inherit Chicago is the city’s only intercultural festival that brings together over 30 cultural centers and heritage museums, members of the Chicago Cultural Alliance, in collaboration to produce programming in 20 diverse neighborhoods in the region throughout October 2019.

Great Hall

Sabina P. Logisz Great Hall was originally designed as the auditorium for the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America headquarters. In 1939, it was adapted for the needs of the Museum. The center space of the Great Hall presents rotating temporary exhibitions of documentary and historical content, as well as art and artists, both local and international.
