It is with deep sadness that the Polish Museum of America notes the passing of Donald Versen, Sr. on August 24, 2025.
Mr. Versen was a longtime friend and supporter of the PMA. Together with his wife, Joan Versen, he became a Life Member in 2003, and the two were honored with the Polish Spirit Award the same year. He served on the PMA Board during the 1990s and 2000s and was a Chairman of the 1994 PMA Summer Ball. He also volunteered at numerous local, civic, cultural, religious, governmental, social service and health organizations. Among others, he was a member of the American Polish Advisory Council and Polish National Alliance Chicago Society.
He was also regarded on the national level, having participated in several White House functions including the Roundtable on Peace and NATO membership for Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia; a Midwest Region Economic Conference for Eastern and Central Europe; and President Clinton’s trip to Warsaw to announce Partnership for Peace and NATO membership for Poland.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, and we remain grateful for his dedicated service and commitment to the Museum.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, August 27, from 3-7 pm at Cumberland Chapels (8300 W. Lawrence Ave, Norridge, IL, 60706).

Z głębokim żalem Muzeum Polskie w Ameryce przyjęło wiadomość o śmierci Donalda Versena, Sr., który odszedł 24 sierpnia 2025 roku.
Pan Versen był wieloletnim przyjacielem i darczyńcą MPA. Wraz z żoną, Joan Versen, w 2003 roku zostali członkami wieczystymi Muzeum oraz uhonorowani Nagrodą Polskiego Ducha tego samego roku. Pan Versen pełnił także funkcję członka w zarządzie PMA w latach 90. i 2000. oraz był przewodniczącym Letniego Balu PMA w 1994 roku. Był również wolontariuszem w licznych lokalnych, obywatelskich, kulturalnych, religijnych, rządowych i społecznych organizacjach. Był między innymi członkiem American Polish Advisory Council and Polish National Alliance Chicago Society.
Był również ceniony na szczeblu krajowym, biorąc udział w kilku wydarzeniach w Białym Domu, w tym w Okrągłym Stole na rzecz Pokoju i członkostwa Polski, Węgier, Czech i Słowacji w NATO; Konferencji Gospodarczej Regionu Środkowo-Zachodniego dla Europy Wschodniej i Środkowej; oraz w wizycie prezydenta Clintona w Warszawie, podczas której ogłoszono Partnerstwo dla Pokoju i członkostwo Polski w NATO.
Składamy serdeczne wyrazy współczucia rodzinie i przyjaciołom Zmarłego oraz dziękujemy za jego oddaną służbę i wsparcie dla Muzeum.
Uroczystości pogrzebowe odbędą się w środę, 27 sierpnia, w godz. 15:00–19:00 w Cumberland Chapels (8300 W. Lawrence Ave, Norridge, IL, 60706).
