The PMA mourns the loss of Life Member Maria Mirecka-Loryś

It is with sadness that we inform PMA members, supporters, and friends that PMA Life Member Maria Mirecka-Loryś has passed away in Warsaw, Poland at the age of 106. Mrs. Loryś was a stalwart leader of Polonia organizations from her arrival in Chicago in the 1950s through her relocation to Poland in the early 2000s. She was an ardent supporter of the Polish Museum of America. Her family history is intertwined with Poland’s struggle during World War II; Mrs. Loryś continued her activism in securing freedom for Poland after the war by participating in and leading numerous political and charitable activities. Mrs. Loryś is survived by her son Jan, PMA historian, and her daughter Ewa.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

My deepest condolences to the Lorys family. I have known Maria and Jan Lorys for a very long time. I first met both while being hired as a photographer for the Illinois Division of thre Polish American Congress. Both Maria and Jan were very active in this organization. I wish my deepest condolences for Jan especially. I know his mom and him were very close. They were always very nice and decent to me and to everyone around them. Take care and I only wish you all the best. Victor Modlinski – Polish National Alliance.
