Ignacio Zaragoza. Friedrich von Steuben. Tadeusz Kosciuszko. Their names sound very different, but there is something these three men have in common: they have all become legends. In this multi-media workshop, in collaboration with DANK Haus German American Cultural Center, the Polish Museum of America and OPEN Center for the Arts, explored what happens when three legendary figures from three different cultures come to life and understand the way they are remembered today. Visual artists captured the essence of each legend and transformed it into a unique, artistic expression, then invite the audience to create their own art. The workshops were the foundation for a lively dialogue and shared exploration of issues such as cultural heritage, the relation of truth to fantasy, and a community’s need for legends.
