On this Day in History: The Eastland Disaster (1915)
On July 24, 1915, the passenger steamer Eastland capsized while docked on the Chicago River, claiming 844 lives—including hundreds of members of Chicago’s Polish community. Many were families and workers preparing for a company picnic, making the tragedy one of the deadliest maritime disasters in American history.

The Polish Museum of America (PMA) was pleased to be represented by PMA President Richard Owsiany at a public meeting held on July 14 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum in Simi Valley, California, featuring Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, Radosław Sikorski.
July 11 – A Day of Remembrance
On July 11, we honor the memory of the victims of the Volhynia tragedy and all those whose lives were forever changed by the violence that unfolded during the Second World War.
Arthur Szyk as a Spokesman for Polish-American Friendship
On July 9, the Polish Museum of America had the pleasure of welcoming guests for a lecture by Stefan Władysiuk of the Library at the Polish Institute in Montreal, Arthur Szyk as a Spokesman for Polish-American Friendship.
